I didn't mention the holly twig because a fast look didn't turn anything up. It does seem as though breaking a twig could be used in a spell to mark something definitive.

[Ariane mythology] turns up this-- Ariane helped Theseus out of the labyrinth. Also, that the name is more commonly Ariadne:
in Greek mythology, was the daughter of Minos king of Crete,[1] and his queen Pasiphaƫ, daughter of Helios, the Sun-titan.[2] She is mostly associated with mazes and labyrinths, due to her involvement in the myths of the Minotaur and Theseus. Her father put her in charge of the labyrinth where sacrifices were made as part of reparations (either to Poseidon or to Athena, depending on the version of the myth); however, she would later help Theseus in overcoming the Minotaur and saving the would-be sacrificial victims. In other stories, she became the bride of the god Dionysus, with the question of her background as being either a mortal or a goddess varying in those accounts.[3][4]
.
She's going to have some connection to labyrinths in a bit, and (free associating a little) to Arachne-- a maker whose excellent work attracts the negative attention of a goddess.

You're welcome. I don't think I would be doing this if I hadn't known there were some people who were interested.
